A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING DELL D. SCOPER, STATE REGENT OF MISSISSIPPI STATE SOCIETY DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION FOR HER MERITORIOUS SERVICE TO HER COMMUNITY AND STATE.
WHEREAS, Dell Scoper has been elected to serve as the State Regent of Mississippi, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution; and
WHEREAS, she has served in many other leadership positions of the DAR including service as the State Chaplain, Curator of the Rosalie Mansion, State Chairman of the National Defense Committee, and Coastal Plains District Director; and
WHEREAS, she has served at the national level as a Vice-Chairman of the National Defense Committee, a Vice-Chairman of the National Scholarship Committee and as a member of the National Credentials Committee, and in 2001 she will serve as the National Chairman for the State Regents Banquets in Washington, D.C.; and
WHEREAS, her editorial entitled "Women in Combat" was the 1991 national winner for the best national defense editorial by a State Chairman; and
WHEREAS, Dell Scoper is a dedicated volunteer in her community, serving in various civic and service organizations; and
WHEREAS, Dell Scoper was the first woman to be elected President of the Mississippi College National Alumni Association; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of her contributions to higher education, her alma mater, Mississippi College, selected Dell Scoper as the recipient of its Outstanding Alumni Award in 1982; and
WHEREAS, Dell Scoper is a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Laurel where she serves as a teacher and is an officer in the Woman's Missionary Union; and
WHEREAS, Dell Scoper serves as a member-at-large on the Mississippi Baptist Convention Board and is a former member of the Mississippi Baptist Board of Ministerial Education; and
WHEREAS, Dell Scoper's commitment to her faith and extraordinary dedication to the betterment of her fellowman was recognized in 1993 when she received the Mississippi Baptist Convention's "Brown-Davis Award for Racial Reconciliation"; and
WHEREAS, Dell Scoper is a native Mississippian and holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Mississippi College; and
WHEREAS, the strength of our communities and the state and the vitality of our society depends upon the dedicated efforts and work of diligent volunteers; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Legislature to commend the meritorious contributions and services of its citizens:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend Dell Scoper, State Regent, Mississippi State Society Daughters of the American Revolution for her meritorious contributions and service to her community and state.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Dell Scoper.
